Our One-Stop Build Solution

We recognise the intricate nature of managing multi-phase construction projects. That’s why we’ve developed a one-stop build solution that includes the design, planning and construction.

Project Highlights:

Knights were thrilled to be approached by an existing client with a vision to build a new sustainable flagship site, one of the most technologically advanced in the UK, centralised around six 320 x 80ft broiler houses, CHP energy centre and air scrubbing systems.

A collaboration approach saw Knights and the client working in partnership from the outset to design and deliver the earthworks, civils and shed builds all-in-one. Knights also acted as project manager/Principal Contractor overseeing the full delivery of the scheme as well as the health and safety for all subcontractors on site.

The Solution:

With a challenging winter start date, the cut and fill operation soon came into problems when at formation, migrating water at great volumes was travelling through the site. Over 2500 linear metres of below formation drains were installed to mitigate the issue. Soil Stabilisation was then delivered at a 4% installation rate, ready for Knights’ shed build and civils teams to land.

Working hand-in-hand throughout, the teams brought new solutions to traditional problems. Dealing with a late delivery of material to site, caused by parameters outside the control of the supply line, the civils team progressed with roof insulation as the shed build followed behind.  Only due to delivering all aspects in-house were Knights able to co-ordinate an overlap of programme and a utilisation of plant that resulted in significant time and costs savings for the client compared to the conventional build approach.

The new groundworks-to-shed build approach adopted on the project has allowed Knights to showcase a successful bringing together of a wealth of experience from the industrial/commercial industries to deliver an innovative new solution to poultry house building. The result, a spectacular example of what we think a poultry site should be: functional, efficient and future proof.

Knights are now replicating this model with further adaptations and innovations, providing groundworks and shed buildings to customers throughout the UK.
